While George waited to be interviewed on a CIUT radio show in downtown Toronto, with host, Jim Harris, George gazed around the studio. The little voice in his head confidently stated, “I could do this – I could host my own radio show.” And George Torok set a plan in motion to create and propose his radio show idea to the McMaster university radio station, CFMU.

World traveler
George Torok made his first journey around the world at the age of 20. He visited more than 20 countries, within 12 months and spent less than $4600. He learned to speak snippets of several languages.
Among the many memorable moments; he was bitten by a rabid monkey in Benaraes, the Hindu holy city in India, climbed the great pyramid of Cheops outside of Cairo, crossed into East Berlin at Checkpoint Charlie, before the Berlin wall fell, crossed the Nalabar desert of Australia, trekked in the Himalayan mountains of Nepal, and relaxed on the beaches of Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Indonesia and Hawaii.

Marathon runner
George Torok completed his first tri-a-tri triathlon in 2001, his first half-marathon in 2002 and his first full marathon in May 2003. A marathon is 42 kilometers or 26 miles. In high school he was a struggling member of the cross-country team, (aka Harrier team), and dropped out of his first six-mile race. Persistence counts.
